THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MENTORING FUNCTIONS AND PERSONALITY TRAITS
I am Aylin Tokatlı. I have been working as an Executive Assistant to the CEO at Koç Holding in Turkey. I studied English Translation and Interpretation at Hacettepe University and I am currently a master’s degree student at Bahçeşehir University (Human Resources Management).
I am currently writing my dissertation. The subject of my thesis is mentoring. I would like to study the relationship between mentoring and personality traits. My thesis advisor is Prof. Dr. Canan Çetin.
In Turkey, unfortunately, the number of academic researches about career mentoring is quite limited. However, I strongly believe that there is an increasing need for studies on this significant topic. Therefore I am very enthusiastic about my thesis.
I would like to provide a detailed information about “the concept of mentoring, the importance of mentoring for the mentor/mentee and the organisation, types and phases of mentoring, career and psychosocial functions of mentoring, risks and unexpected outcomes resulting from mentoring programs, factors that affect mentoring process, the importance of personality traits in mentoring and examples of mentoring programs from the world” within my thesis.
I would like to include the “29- Item Mentoring Functions Scale (Noe, 1988) and Ten-Item Personality Inventory (Gosling et al., 2003) which measures five basic personality traits” as part of my dissertation. I plan to make the inventory accessible to employees who work for the major companies in Istanbul- Turkey that provides mentoring, which, I assume, will provide insight on the mentoring programs in Turkey.
For this reason, the number of mentees who will complete the inventory is quite significant. I hope that you could lend me assistance in reaching the companies providing mentoring and their mentees. I look forward to reading your opinions about my research. I will, of course, share the results of my research with you.
